Parking

At UOIT we pride ourselves on providing adequate, safe and well-maintained parking facilities for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Over the past few years, significant effort has gone into enhancing our parking facilities and systems. New lots have been created and we have refurbished many of our existing lots.

Hours and location

The Parking Services Office is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located across from the main entrance to the Gordon Willey building.

General parking information

Paid parking is in effect on campus.

  • The campus is private property and entry is permitted for attending classes and other authorized activities
  • Campus Services is responsible for implementing and enforcing parking regulations
  • We assume no responsibility for any damage or loss to vehicles while on campus
  • We reserve the right to maintain full jurisdiction over all vehicle traffic and parking
  • Registered owners will be held responsible for all vehicle violations
  • We reserve the right to move, tow or impound a vehicle on campus property when in violation of parking regulations
  • If your annual, semester or block parking permit is lost or stolen, you must apply to have it replaced and pay a replacement fee
  • We will replace damaged permits

More parking tips

  • Welcome Centre attendants are available to assist at entrance kiosks in each lot
  • Short term parking is available in the Pay 'N' Display parking area by the main entrance and the visitor areas

Parking permit purchasing system

Continuing Education students are not required to purchase a parking permit for evening classes.

Rates

Please note that the rates listed below are subject to change and apply to all motorized vehicles including motorcycles.

Oshawa campus

Annual (on-campus) Daily from September 1 to August 31, 2010* $500
Annual (Simcoe Street South) Daily from September 1 to August 31, 2010* $350
Semester Daily during specified semester* $250
Pay 'N' Display Hourly rate; no maximum $4/hour
Daily maximum Visitors within gated lot (flat rate) $10

Above rates include all applicable taxes.

Policies

All permits are valid from 6 a.m. to midnight. No overnight parking is allowed unless prior arrangements have been made.

Displaying your parking permit

  • You must hang your permit on your rear-view mirror, with the permit number facing the windshield
  • If you have a Pay 'N' Display permit, place it face up on your dashboard and where it can be seen easily from the outside

Please note:

  • Your parking permit is a licence to park on campus but does not guarantee the availability of a parking space
  • There are no refunds for Pay 'N' Display permits

Service fees

First replacement of a lost or stolen permit $25 non-refundable
Subsequent replacement of a lost or stolen permit applicable full price
Deposit for access card

$10 (refundable on return of card)

Replacement of lost or stolen access card

$25 (non-refundable)

Towing fee

$50 minimum or actual charge if more

Above rates include all applicable taxes.


Vehicle registration

When you display and use a parking permit you acknowledge that you know and accept the regulations outlined in the Parking & Traffic Informationbrochure that you receive with your permit.

Motorcycles

  • The parking permit fee structure applies to motorcycles as well as other motorized vehicles
  • You must purchase a parking permit to park on campus
  • You must register your motorcycle with the university or college through the Parking office
  • When you enter the campus, you must show your permit to the Welcome Centre attendant

Bicycles

  • Cyclists should park their bicycles only in the racks provided
  • Bicycles found in buildings or chained to trees, posts etc. will be relocated to the closest rack

Violations

  • All vehicles must be parked in a designated parking space
  • Each legal parking space is identified by yellow lines painted on the pavement, parking curbstone or yellow post
  • The end of each row is marked by double yellow lines or by a concrete curbstone
  • Vehicles parked outside a designated space are in violation and will be ticketed and/or towed, even if a valid parking permit is visibly displayed

Enforcement

  • Enforcement of regulations is consistent with the Parking & Traffic Information brochure (received with your permit), municipal bylaws and provincial and federal laws
  • All parking lots are monitored
  • All illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and/or towed and impounded; all costs will be at the owner's expense
  • Parking privileges may be withdrawn for the continued abuse of regulations; please refer to your Parking & Traffic Information brochure
  • Parking permits are non transferable
