The UOIT/Durham College Solar Vehicle Team is launching its Adopt-A-Cell program this week, giving students, staff and faculty at UOIT and Durham College an opportunity to adopt one of the 500 cells that will be located on top of a solar vehicle being built this year. At a cost of $50 per cell that includes donor recognition on the Solar Vehicle Team's website, this fundraising initiative will provide a total of $25,000 in funding for the solar vehicle project.
Moving full steam ahead on the design and construction of a prototype being manufactured from wood and metal, the UOIT/Durham College Solar Vehicle Team plans to have the vehicle built by the end of February. Following that, construction will begin on a competition-worthy solar vehicle that is made from fiberglass and runs using the power of the 500 adopted solar cells. Plans to have the vehicle roadworthy include having it built and tested by the end of the summer and then used for competition in the North American Solar Challenge in 2007.
To adopt a cell please contact the solar car team at 905.721.3111 ext. 6980 or solarcar@uoit.ca to obtain a pledge card or visit www.uoitsolarcar.ca for more information.
