Preventing an assault on campus

The following tips are designed to help prevent being assaulted on campus:

  • Never risk personal injury to protect property or personal belongings;
  • Never admit you’re alone, either in person or on the phone. Mention that someone else is present;
  • Wait in well-lit areas for public transit and sit near the driver;
  • Be alert to others watching you and keep your distance;
  • Refuse to give your name, address or phone number to strangers, unless for legitimate purposes;
  • Trust your instincts; and
  • If you feel at risk, take action.

If assault occurs on campus:

  • Contact Campus Security at 905.721.8668 ext. 2400 or 905.721.3211;
  • Ask any staff member for help; and
  • Record a description of the suspect and details about the assault as soon as possible.
