Monitoring

Campus Security service has CPR- and first aid-qualified guards on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Guards patrol buildings and grounds throughout the day and evening. Durham Regional Police Service also patrols the campus.

Main campus entrances are open:

  • Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and
  • Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The campus is closed for all statutory holidays. Staff and students who need access to the campus outside these hours must show their campus ID card and sign in with the guard at the security desk in the Gordon Willey building on the north Oshawa campus location; and after-hours access for downtown buildings is limited to 61 Charles Street through the security desk, which is staffed 24 hours a day. A campus ID card is required to gain access.  You will be required to sign in and out when using facilities during off-hours at the main security desk.

All staff, faculty, and students working on campus after hours should sign in and out with the Work Alone program.

Security equipment

For your protection, surveillance cameras are located in buildings, on the grounds and along footpaths. High-level safety mirrors are also located in corridors to enable you to see what's around the corner. Campus Security is responsible for the co-ordination and installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV)security systems in many buildings. CCTV systems are digitally recorded and may be monitored within the Campus Security office.

Pay phones and emergency phones are on campus and in the parking lots at key locations. Students and staff are encouraged to learn where phones are located. For help, call Campus Security at 905.721.8668 ext. 2400 or 905.721.3211. A security officer will respond immediately and contact emergency services if required.
