Websites and hyperlinks

When referencing websites, the www. prefix is not used in marketing material.

For example: uoit.ca (not www.uoit.ca)

Don’t use the word link in your links

Screen readers tell the user when they encounter a link, so you don’t need to use the words link or links to or goes to in your link text.

For example: Visit our university policies page to learn more.

How to embed a hyperlink:

Note: These instructions do not apply to the university’s Content Management System (CMS). Refer to the CMS Documentation for instructions on how to embed a hyperlink on a CMS page.

Windows:

  1. Select the text and right click the mouse.
  2. Select the hyperlink function.
  3. Add link to the address field.
  4. Select OK.

Mac:

  1. Navigate to the page you want to link to and copy the URL in the address bar.
  2. Right-click selected text and choose Hyperlink from the pop-up menu (or Command-K).
  3. Paste the URL in the Link To field of the Insert Hyperlink dialog.
  4. Select Screen Tip to display a dialog when someone hovers a mouse pointer over the hyperlink (optional).
  5. Select OK in the Insert Hyperlink dialog.
