Content management system (CMS)

A content management system (CMS) is an online application that allows individuals to manage the content on their websites, without the need to have prior knowledge of website coding or design principles. A university's CMS allows individuals to create, edit, and delete content from their websites and preview any changes before publishing to the "live" website. CMS training and web support are provided by the Communications and Marketing Web Team.

Benefits of using the UOIT CMS:

  • A user-friendly interface that is similar to popular desktop editors allows users to create and edit content with ease
  • Accessible templates and design of all websites managed in the CMS
  • Consistent design across all university websites managed in the CMS
  • All content (documents and images) is shared, so the duplication of content is reduced
  • Ability to set up workflows (steps of approval) and tiered access for content contributors
  • Version control and the ability to revert to a previous version or deleted version of a page or document
